چکیده

EBS: epidermolysis bullosa simplex INTRODUCTION Botulinum toxin has been used to treat plantar blistering and pain in 7 epidermolysis bullosa simplex patients, includingone child, with excellent but transient success (Table I). Most of these patients were treated with abobotulinumtoxinA, including the indexed pediatric patient. We recently investigated the use of onabotulinumtoxinA to treat epidermolysis bullosa simplex (EBS) symptoms in a pediatric patient, making this successful treatment unusual. Dose equivalence ranging from 2:1 to 4:1 abobotulinumtoxinA to onabotulinumtoxinA, respectively, has been suggested for the treatment of glabellar wrinkles and axillary hyperhidrosis, but further evidence is needed to determine the appropriate dose for management of EBS symptoms in both pediatric and adult patients. Additionally, the relative importance of the toxin’s role inhyperhidrosis reductionandon localneurotransmitter release in neuropathic pathways deserves exploration.

Botulinum toxin in the treatment of sweat-worsened foot problems in patients with epidermolysis bullosa simplex and pachyonychia congenita.

BACKGROUND Painful foot blistering is a common problem in patients with epidermolysis bullosa simplex (EBS) and pachyonychia congenita (PC). Hyperhidrosis, a condition which can be effectively blocked by plantar injections of botulinum toxin (Btx), often exacerbates the blistering. OBJECTIVES A retrospective evaluation of the effects of Btx injections in 14 patients with EBS and PC with foot ...

Botulinum toxin A injection for chronic anal fissures and anal sphincter spasm improves quality of life in recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa

We report a 20-year-old female with generalized, severe, recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa who developed secondary chronic anal fissures. This resulted in anal sphincter spasm and severe, disabling pain. She was treated with five botulinum toxin A injections into the internal anal sphincter over a period of 2 years and gained marked improvement in her symptoms. This case demonstrates t...

Epidermolysis Bullosa associated with pyloric stenosis: A case report

Epidermolysis bullosa are a group of hereditary skin diseases manifested as blisters on the sites of trauma to the skin. According to the level of blister development, epidermolysis bullosa are divided into the following groups: epidermolysis bullosa simplex, junctional epidermolysis bullosa and dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. The latter two groups are associated with poorer prognosis and hig...

The Use of Cultured Allogenic Keratinocyte Grafting in a Patient with Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex

Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic disease that is known for continuous skin blistering caused by minor trauma. The skin blisters and bullae that develop often cause skin defects. There is no definitive treatment for EB, only symptomatic relief. We report our experience with cultured allogenic keratinocyte grafting in a newborn patient with EB simplex who had unhealed raw surfaces and...

Successful radiation therapy for supratentorial primitive neuroectodermal tumor and epidermolysis bullosa simplex.

Epidermolysis bullosa simplex (EBS) is a heritable skin disorder characterized by skin fragility and blistering. While its most severe variant, dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DEB) is associated with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), the development of extracutaneous neoplasms in EBS is extremely rare. We report a novel case of supratentorial primitive neuroectodermal tumor (sPNET) in a 7-year m...
